The unique destination

Between the Oslo Fjord and the green hills of Oslo lies the Norwegian capital! The city is located at the head of the 100-kilometre Oslo fjord. The fjords 40 islands are great for recreation, and many of them can be reached by ferry. Over half of the municipality of Oslo is covered by forests and parks, making Oslo a truly green city.

The combination of city life and easy access to outdoor activities makes Oslo a unique destination.Oslo is the biggest city in Norway, and has been the country's capital since 1814. The Government and Parliament are located here in the center. The Royal Palace is found at the end of the main street, Karl Johans gate. Even in the city centre, the nearest park is never more than a few blocks away.

A ten-minute boat ride from the centre takes you to lovely beaches on the Oslo Fjord islands. In the winter Oslo has hundreds of kilometers of cross-country trails within the city boundaries, in addition to eight ski centers.

The city limits encompass wilderness areas as well as an array of restaurants almost unparalleled in Scandinavia. Oslo City Hall is located in the city centre only a few hundred meters from the city's main street and overlooks Oslo Fjord filled with moored pleasure craft, shrimp trawlers, cruise ships, charter boats and ferries to all the islands. Norwegians are interested in sports and are proud of their athletes and sports facilities. The legendary Holmenkollen Ski Jump - a trolley ride away from the city centre - is the core of extensive sports facilities adapted for ski jumping competition, cross country competition and biathlon events.

Oslo´s climate is milder than its latitude might indicate. Summer temperatures often equal those of cities much further south, yet the winters are usually cold enough to make Oslo a great skiing destination.
